Patient Partner, Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN) Patient Network,
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University

Ms Veronica Lim

Veronica is a retiree living with bronchiectasis, a chronic lung disease. She has had this condition since childhood which makes her susceptible to lung infections and respiratory failure. After her retirement from work at the end of 2023, Veronica was invited by her regular respiratory doctor to consider volunteering as a member of the Academic Respiratory Initiative for Pulmonary Health (TARIPH) lung patient network, the first national patient panel for research in respiratory health and diseases. She joined TARIPH in early 2024, and shortly after, she was also inducted into the LKCMedicine Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN) patient network. Veronica firmly believes that Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) will ground and strengthen research outcomes, especially in primary care. As a patient partner, she has shared details of her lived experience with respiratory issues, advocated for the patient-public perspective in medical research, facilitated discussions on how patient partners can be involved in the research cycle and collaborated with researchers on a national research proposal on PPI. She has been involved in various TARIPH lung health research projects and OPEN’s programmes and initiatives in educating researchers on how to incorporate PPI into medical research.
