Pre-Conference Workshop 1:
SGH Aquaponics Farm Tour + Design Thinking Fundamentals and Field Application
Overview

Participants will first start off with a SGH Aquaponics tour where they will gain insights into:

How an aquaponics system operates

Principles of sustainable urban farming​
-
The farm’s role in enhancing food security for SGH​
-
Use of green spaces for mental health and community well-being​
-
Ongoing research initiatives being conducted on the farm
Following the tour, this interactive workshop introduces participants to the Design Thinking mindset and equips them with practical tools for human-centred problem-solving. Participants will apply Design Thinking tools during a 30-minute guided field activity to gather insights, then translate knowledge gained from the pre-workshop SGH Aquaponics Farm Tour into ideas during the ideation phase. Through this integrated approach, participants will gain foundational knowledge of the Design Thinking process and experience how empathy and real-world context drive innovative solutions to sustainability challenges.​

SMU Sustainability Tour + Design Thinking Fundamentals and Field Application
The course content and structure remain the same as (1); the key difference lies in the accompanying pre-workshop tour. Participants will pick up different learnings from the SMU Sustainability Tour to apply in this workshop.

Pre-Conference Workshop 3:
Beyond Protocol: Unlocking the Hidden Curriculum of Primary Care through Narrative and Art
Overview
​
Primary care clinicians operate within an unseen set of rules: the implicit emotional demands, identity pressures, and unwritten norms absorbed throughout their career. This Hidden Curriculum profoundly shapes clinical judgement, communication, and, critically, personal resilience - a core challenge when managing complex, long-term patient relationships.
This highly interactive 180-minute workshop introduces an evidence-based reflective practice framework rooted in Narrative Medicine and the Medical Humanities. The pre-conference workshop provides a structured, psychologically safe space to surface and examine these internalised professional codes.
Participants will engage in close reading, guided reflection, and symbolic expression using art materials and found object, including every day, upcycled clinic materials. These methodologies induce slowed attention and the articulation of tacit knowledge that forms otherwise unconscious, perpetual professional behaviour.
Clinicians will gain clearer language for their lived experience and learn how core values can be re-centred to sustain meaningful, person-centred care amid high-volume pressures. Participants will leave with a practical reflective model and concrete skills for enhancing patient encounters, team coherence, and supervision.
