Session Venue:

Abstract

Age related decline in immunity increases older adults’ susceptibility to infectious diseases, such as herpes zoster (shingles) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The risk of severe outcomes—such as hospitalisation, complications, and prolonged recovery—is further elevated in patients with co-morbidities like chronic renal disease, as well as in those receiving immunosuppressive therapies.

This session will examine the pathophysiological links between shingles, RSV, and common co morbid conditions; and will review the clinical evidence supporting vaccination strategies in high risk patients. By integrating immunisation into routine clinical practice as part of comprehensive patient care, healthcare providers can reduce the burden of preventable infectious diseases and improve patient outcomes.
