SESSION DETAILS
Abstract
Patient and public involvement (PPI) is increasingly expected in health research around the world. Having patients and members of the public involved in research on advisory committees and as part of research teams brings the expertise of lived experience to the research problem and helps improve the quality, relevance, accountability, and transparency of research. This session will outline how PPI is operationalized in health research with an emphasis on primary care research. We will describe current PPI initiatives in Singapore and situate them in an international context. We will also provide advice to those looking to include PPI in their primary care research, including advice from patient research partners who have experience with PPI. The workshop will include hands-on activities. This workshop is run by primary care researchers and patient research partners from across Singapore.
Workshop Objectives
Support primary care researchers in learning about and considering how they could include PPI in their research.
Workshop Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
• Describe PPI and how PPI is used in research, including PPI use in Singapore
• Conceptualize how and when they could use PPI in their own research
• Describe potential issues and ways to handle these issues when using PPI in research
