Abstract

Hypertension and hyperkalaemia frequently intersect in primary care, particularly in patients receiving renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibjtors. Uncontrolled hypertension drives cardiovascular morbidity and increases clinic workload, while elevated potassium levels complicate optimal therapy, leading to treatment discontinuation, care fragmentation, and potentially avoidable specialist referrals and hospital admissions.

This symposium brings together expert perspectives to address these interconnected challenges. The first talk will discuss the disease burden of uncontrolled hypertension, its impact on cardiovascular outcomes, and emerging treatment paradigms including novel therapeutic approaches currently in development. The second talk will provide practical, clinic-ready strategies for identifying and managing hyperkalaemia in high-risk patients, enabling safer continuation of cardioprotective RAAS inhibitors.
