Abstract
Primary care research is essential for advancing scientific knowledge and improving community healthcare delivery, yet conducting research in busy primary care settings presents unique challenges. This interactive workshop provides a practical framework for designing and implementing successful research studies within the distinctive context of primary care practice. Participants will explore evidence-based strategies for overcoming common barriers to primary care research, including resource constraints, recruitment difficulties, and workflow integration. The session covers key areas including research design principles tailored to primary care settings, effective utilisation of electronic health records for research purposes, robust project management approaches, and meaningful patient and public involvement. Through interactive presentations and facilitated group activities, participants will work collaboratively to identify practical solutions to real-world research challenges. The workshop includes hands-on exercises where attendees develop research questions for their own practice contexts and explore the advantages and limitations of different methodological approaches. This session is designed for healthcare professionals working in primary care who are new to research or seeking to enhance their research capabilities.
Workshop Objectives
This workshop aims to introduce participants to
1) principles and frameworks that may be applied when designing research in the primary care setting
2) Ways to address various challenges encountered when conducting research in primary care.
Workshop Learning Outcomes
• Understand a framework that can be used in the design of research in busy primary settings
• Learn ways to address the various challenges encountered when conducting research in primary care
